CoreCooling
I received the CoreCooling products only a couple of days before the IM Kona World Championship race. Since this is the most important race of the year, I wanted to be sure about the effect. And also the it would not give me any discomfort
So I tried it a couple of days before the race. I liked the arm-sleeves, especially on the bike they work very well even without patches or ice, just the wetted blue fabric gives good cooling. The effect of all 3 products was so positive that I decided to wear it during the race itself.
During the running part of the race I used the base-layer (which I already was wearing during the swim) and head-band. They worked perfect for me with ice in it during running. The melting ice cools the blue fabric and the coolness went through my whole body.
I really needed the cooling. I came from the bike 'cooked' and after 5 KM running I felt like I would not be able to finish the race. So I switched to surviving-mode more than racing and I started to fill the pockets of the base-layer with ice. After 5 KM more, when I reached Queen-K, I felt my body cooled down a lot and I could start to race again!
I used the front pocket of the base-layer as a storage place for ice. I filled them with Ice at aid-stations and then I took ice-cubes from there, one by one, to fill the head-band and other pockets while running. This was very effective without loosing time.
I did put the head-band in my tri-suit before the race, because I wanted to use it during the bike. But I already put my helmet on when I thought about the head-band... so I was to late... but I could easily put it on during the run, to benefit from it there, without loosing time. So, I do need to get the CoreCooling integrated in my transition routine.
There is another advantage of the CoreCooling head-band. Normally I get sweat-drops in my eyes during training and races, but the head-band is designed in such a way that sweat is not getting into my eyes.
When I normally put ice on my skin, it hurts much, and this is very annoying during a race. But when I put ice on the blue fabric of the CoreCooling, then you feel it is cold, but it does not hurt.
I feel like I survived the race because of the CoreCooling, it saved my race.
Now I will use it also during the winter period, especially when I train indoor. I can use the patches for post-cooling as well. And during next races, even when the temperatures will be not that high.
