FAQ

about the CoreCooling

1. How do I optimize cooling for longer races or intense training sessions?

For extended cooling, try the double-layer strategy by placing an orange patch on top of a blue one. This helps the blue patch maintain a lower temperature for longer by drawing cooling energy from the orange patch.

2. Can the Cooling Patches be reused?

Yes, the cooling patches are reusable. They can be recharged in the freezer as often as needed. To maintain the cooling effect during your activity, monitor the patches: once they turn completely transparent, the cooling stops (see also FAQ 8.). At that point, they need recharging either in the freezer or by placing an orange patch on top of a blue one to extend the cooling (the orange patch recharges the blue patch).

3. In what weather conditions can I wear the CoreCooling products?

The optimal ambient temperature for endurance sport is 6.2°C (43°F) for men and 6.8°C (44°F) for women. Performance decreases with every degree the temperature rises. When temperatures are around 26°C (79°F) the performance decreases by 17.7% for men and 12.4% for women. So, cooling your body, also in cool temperatures, is crucial.

The Tri-excellence CoreCooling products are adaptable to various conditions. In low/moderate heat, evaporation/convection cooling from the blue fabric may be sufficient. In higher temperatures, or during higher intensity you can enhance the cooling with the patches and/or ice and/or cold water. The combination of evaporation/convection and patch cooling makes the products suitable for both moderate, warm and hot weather.

4. How do I prevent the blue fabric from becoming stiff during a race?

The blue fabric stiffens when it dries, so make sure it stays moist for optimal comfort and functionality. If you’re in a hot, dry environment, periodically pour water over the fabric to keep it flexible and to enhance the evaporation cooling effect. Make the blue fabric wet before putting it on your body.

5. What’s the best way to use ice cubes in the CoreCooling products?

Ice cubes can be placed in the pockets along with the patches or directly onto the blue fabric (make sure the blue fabric is wet when you put ice-cubes directly onto it). In the head-band, you can distribute the ice cubes across the width to cool your forehead and temples. Melting water from the ice is absorbed by the blue fabric, further enhancing the cooling effect.

When using ice-cubes; you can use the front-pocket in your base-layer as 'storage-place' for ice-cubes. Fill that pocket with ice-cubes at an aid-station or when handed to you during training or race. Then take them 1-by-1 and put them in the pockets of your head-band, arm-sleeves or other base-layer pockets. You can do this during exercise to not loose any time, but profit in a maximal way of the CoreCooling effects.

6. How should I handle the patches if I need to discard them during a race?

The patches are durable and designed for multiple uses, so it's ideal not to discard them. However, if you need to during a race, plan ahead by either placing them in a T-bag or arrange for someone to collect them at designated points. This helps minimize waste and ensures you can reuse them later.

7. Can I freeze the blue fabric along with the patches?

No, freezing the blue fabric causes it to become solid and stiff. It’s best to freeze the patches separately and insert them into the pockets once you’re ready to use them. Make sure the blue fabric is moist for easy patch insertion.

8. What is the difference between the orange and blue cooling patches, and how long do they last?

  • Orange patches: Provide cooling at 6°C (44°F) for up to 30-40 minutes.
  • Blue patches: Provide cooling at 15°C (59°F) for up to 70-80 minutes.

In hot conditions, layering the patches (orange on top of blue) extends the cooling effect. Placing ice-cubes on the patches also extends the cooling time further (up to 20-30 minutes extra time).

9. How can I adjust the head-band for maximum cooling comfort?

The head-band has been designed for a snug fit with a 5cm wide blue fabric for optimal forehead cooling. You can adjust the cooling effect by placing patches and/or ice cubes along the width of the head-band to target specific areas, such as your temples or forehead, based on your comfort and cooling needs.

The design of the head-band is such that it can be worn underneath a helmet. Check upfront if the helmet still fits correctly and does not jeopardize the helmets protection. Safety first.

10. Are the CoreCooling products eco-friendly?

Yes, all CoreCooling products are made from sustainable materials. The patches are 100% bio-based, USDA, and REACH certified, containing no paraffin or harmful chemicals. The garments are produced in specialized studios in the Netherlands, ensuring high-quality and environmentally conscious production.
